Ginger's Story
There's really nothing like a happy ending.   Well, Red Lake Rosie has many happy endings.   We will mention only a few of the very lucky animals who were saved by Rosie and their stories and photos.   Won't you join us in the adventure?

"Ginger" was found at the Hooterville dumpster in early June, 2005.   Too weak to walk, suffering starvation, mange, tick infestation and a compound fracture on her rear leg.   As I drove past the dumpster I saw the outline of a frail figure lying in the tall grass.   The lean shepard/husky later became known as "Ginger" and would enjoy a wonderful adventure!   I stopped my car and offered her food which she eagerly took from my hand.   I saw her leg broken as I lifted her up and put her on the car seat.   We headed west to Red Lake Rosie's shelter.   After a recovery which included lots of food, water, ivomectin, and a trip to the RAVS Animal Clinic where she was spayed, she was ready for a permanent home.   On July 1st she went to Roseville, Minnesota, to live with Patty and Chris. I received a DVD on Christmas from Ginger.   I could NOT recognize her!   She has her own fenced in yard, spends her days indoors, and all has the food she wants!   Most of all she has all the love she never had before.   He body and her heart are not broken anymore.   This is only one happy ending.
This is Ginger when she first arrive at Red Lake Rosie's.
Ginger is being treated at RAVS Clinic.   She is getting spayed and her shots. She received treatment at Red Lake Rosie's for mange, ticks and starvation.
This is Ginger in her backyard in Roseville, Minnesota in August, 2005.
UPDATE ON GINGER:

Patti and Chris recently adopted another dog from Red Lake.   Ginger now has a friend   "Jo" who keeps company with her.
This is Ginger in December 2005 lying on her couch loved and cared for.   She is home at last!
ANOTHER HAPPY ENDING- Jodaddy's Story
Pete Neadeau called Red Lake Rosie one Sunday evening and reported that a dog was yelping and cring in the woods near his home in Red Lake.   Pete, Polly, and Karen took care of Joe over the next week giving him food and water and tried to assess his damage.   Luckily the Shelter From The Storm Rescue was going to take animals in the upcoming week and if we could just keep watering and feeding Joe, maybe we could get him some help.   It was apparent that something was wrong with his rear legs.

Joe was loaded in a pet carrier by Kevin Wolden and Pete and transported to St. Cloud along with 38 other animals in mid October and was surrendered to SFTS Rescue.

As it turned out Joe was able to get a $550.00 peice of hardware to bolt his pelvic bone back together.   He also had a bullet removed.   The veterinarian donated his time free of charge.

Ivan Martin from Madison, Wisconsin has been hosting SFTS animals rescues and he took on Joe, whom he renamed "Jodaddy".   Well Ivan fell in love with Jodaddy and spoils him an awful lot. He adopted Joe for his very own.   He walks Jodaddy 1 - 2 miles per day to build up his legs.   Ivan recently found out that Jodaddy had brought lyme disease as well as heartworm.   The lyme was treated and the heartworm treatment will be done soon.   Joe's suffering is not over as the treatment is supposed to be awful.   After that, according to Ivan, he will be spoiled on a daily basis and have new playmates in regular rotation.

Red Lake Rosie wishes to thank Ivan Martin for the wonderful work he is doing as a foster home for rescue animals.   Thank you for caring for Jodaddy and providing the care we could not.   We also thank Pete Neadeau who made the rescue and saved Jodaddy's life.

Laz's Story
One cold December night in 2005 Karen was feeding cats at the Highway 89 dumpster and one particular cat was trying to reach the food and could not.   She reached down to pick up the cat and was horrified to find him frozen alive in the ground.   She pulled him loose, and he fell over exposing a compound fracture due to a bullet wound.   Luckily Shelly stopped and offered to take "Lazrus" to the Animal Clinic in Bemidji. Shelly called later that night and the news was not good.   He needed a surgery and care totaling $743.00 to save his life.   Shelly and I both did not have that kind of money.   I placed one call to the friend of animals, Joan Lawson, and I told her the very sad story.   I said, "We need $500.00 and I don't have it."   Joan responded, "Well I do!"     Well, Lazrus was able to get the life saving amputation and is now in the safe care of Shelly and her two sons Brendon and Garrison.
Lazrus was saved, and there is a happy ending.   Shelly admits that if "Lazrus " does get an offer for a home, it will be very hard to part with him.   He has been neutered and has all his shots and is looking for a very special home. Thank goodness for all the people who helped save his life and make the world a little better place to be in.   Sparing his life was meant to be.
Lazrus, safe and recuperating at his foster home in Bemidji.   He may have only 3 legs, but has all the love he needs!
MARLEY'S STORY
Marley is a Lhasa Apso Poodle rescued on January 17th in Red Lake in northern Minnesota.   It was 50 below wind chill that day and Marley was outdoors.   He had not been groomed for some time and had a total of over a pound of hair removed! He also had an ear infection.   He was surrendered to Kari at Rescue Pets Are Wonderful the following day.   Doesn't Marley look wonderful with his new haircut?   Now he's looking for a good home where he can be an indoors dog and get the love, warmth, and   attention he needs. Thank you Kari and friends for your wonderful work! She took many animals from Red Lake that very cold day, and Marley was one of the lucky ones!
UPDATE ON MARLEY (3/9/06)
Marley has been adopted.   His new guardians absolutely love him!   He is curled up warmly and loved at the foot of their bed!   "What a life", Marley says to Kari, Rescue PAWS and Red Lake Rosie!
ANNIE BANNANIE'S STORY
Annie, and outdoors dog, was rescued by Kristin Ripley and her mother, Delores on Sunday, February 19, 2005, from the Red Lake Reservation.   Kristen and Delores, also members of the Red Lake Tribe, were delivering a load of dog food and supplies donated by a group of people in the metro area.   They heard about Annie and took her home with them.   Annie Bannanie, as they call her had been shot in front and rear leg by a shotgun.   Miraculously, she held on for about 1 1/2 week after her injury.   She was transported to Robbinsdale, Minnesota, where she began receiving medical care.   Her rear leg will have to be amputated, but thankfully, the front leg is healing after bullet removal.

She loves Kristen and Delores and her new indoor life!!   This is one very happy ending.   Thank you Kristen and Delores for adopting and loving Annie!!
MERCY'S STORY
"Mercy" was rescued in Ponemah by one of the students.   He was at Red Lake Rosie's for   one week then went out on a rescue to Madison, Wisconsin.   Tracey Hageny coordinated that rescue.   Mercy, later named "Sammy"   had a leg broken in 3 places.   He also suffered starvation and mange.   Sammy has been adopted by some very nice people who were there with him when he had a miraculous surgery on his leg.   He has recovered and has a very good home where he is cared for and loved.   We are searching for a recent picture.   I have written to the people and am waiting to see the "after" picture. This was once to most pitiful animal I had ever seen!   I was very happy to learn about his new life!   I was certain when I first saw him, that "Mercy" would be rescued. I prayed that this animal might get mercy...and he did!
SHADOW'S STORY
"Shadow" was the only survivor from a litter of pups from a stray female shepard found in a culvert near the "Y" in Red Lake.   All others had been killed by getting hit on the highway.   Polly McMasters scooped him up and brought him to Red Lake Rosies, where he stayed for 2 weeks.   I called him Shadow because he would always lay off in the shadows and hide from me.   He was, along with 7 other pups, taken to Joan Lawson who found various foster homes for the animals.   "Shadow" was very frightened, so Joan kept him.   His name was changed to "Dakota".   He never did leave Joan's home.   Now "Dakota" is a normal dog who enjoys a very nice life with food, love, and companionship of many other animals Joan has rescued.   This story had a very good ending.
Updated picture of Dakota coming soon!
MOCHA BISCUIT'S STORY- WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS!
Mocha, also known as Bisquit was rescued by Jo Tallchief and Polly McMaster.   She was found at the Red Lake garbage dumpster late one Sunday evening in March 2006.   She was abandoned there and also ran over as she lay in the tire tracks that night.   Jo took her as a foster for a week while Red Lake Rosie's Rescue began to make contacts all over the state asking for help.   She scooted her little self around.   Jo got very attached to her, as did everyone who got a chance to work with her.   The Clearwater vet said both legs were broken, and that she may be paralyzed.

She was transported by Kevin and Karen to Roseville where she was taken by Lynn Mecum to Midwest Specialty Hospital.   Lynn made all the arrangements, and Joan Lawson again came through for us and helped Mocha get a chance for a new life.

Mocha had 2 days of surgery and on day 3 was WALKING!!!   She was adopted by a vet tech there and is loved and cared for.   She no longer has to worry about being thrown in the garbage and ran over by an automobile!!   This was truly one of our happy endings!   Thank you to the many people involved in her rescue!   There are many good people out there with hearts of gold and Red Lake animals appreciate it!
