Red Lake Rosie rescued   and placed 207 animals during 2005 ; 500 in 2006 ; 503 in 2007; 619 in 2008;   and 420 as of July   2009.

The animals have been taken from the garbage dumpsters, along highways, and sometimes are surrendered by their owners.   Most of the animals rescued suffer from disease, starvation, or injury and many are puppies.   Most of the animals have mange which is rampant in our area.   The animals rescued are temporarily sheltered at Red Lake Rosie's Shelter on the west boundary of the Red Lake Reservation. Others are placed in foster care in the homes locally and in the metro area.

Our main financial support over the past years has been Joan Lawson, the Lawson Family Fund of the St. Paul Foundation which has generously provided funds for medical needs, neuter/spay, shelter operations, and clinics.   We are also recipients of DJ and T Foundation and Charlotte Parks Foundation grants in 2008.

A very committed and resourceful group of people from the Metro area have formed a RLRR Help Group coordinated by Lynn   of Stillwater, MN.   Click on "Contact Us" to see all the dedicated people who have provided financial support, volunteer work, transport of animals and supplies, and animal placement.   This group has been vital to our success.

A special thank you to the group of women who have now formed Red Lake Rosie's Petfinder Group in Rogers, Minnesota primarily fostering and adopting out puppies and small dogs.   We are very excited about this venture.

The animals are transported to Act V; Caring Hands; Cause for Paws, Pet Haven, Animal Angels; One Animal at a Time; Southwest Animal Rescue; Puppy Rescue of Minnesota, Minneapolis; ARVSS,Madison, WI; Tri-County Humane Society, St. Cloud, MN;   Pleading Paws, Zimmerman, MN; Minnesota Animal Rescue (MARS); St Francis of Assisi, Forest Lake, MN; Second Hand Dogs; Second Chance Dogs; Chaska/Carver Humane Society, Chaska, MN; Pennington County Humane Society, Thief River Falls, MN; Small Dog Rescue; Minnesota/Wisconsin Collie Rescue; Animal Ark, Hastings, MN; Wright Way Rescue, Illinois who will help us nuture the animals back to good health and find them homes.   Recently many shelters and foster homes have become available to Red Lake animals.   We are thankful to all.

We are also are excited about the parnership which developed with Animal Ark Neuter Commuter, AHS MSU, and Pet Hills Pet Hospital organizing   community clinics on an ongoing basis.

We held clinics April 22-24; May 28-31; and August 6 - 9, 2009.   We are hoping for another clinic November 6 - 7, 2009 and will update the community as it develops.

Read about some of the animals on "Happy Endings" and updated on www.redlakerosie.blogspot.com

The belief of Red Lake Rosie is "If we neuter and spay the animals, we won't have unwanted, homeless, and suffering animals in our nation."   Won't you join us in this effort to make Red Lake a model in its care of the companion   animals?
None of these rescues would be possible without the financial support of Joan and many other benefactors.   Mee-gwitch to all!

These sweet little sheps are at Pennington HS in Thief River Falls!!
Bessy was to be shot, full of mange, but now enjoys a loving foster home through Animal Ark.
Cedar, a special rescue loves Mary and the Ark!
Paulie was a stray who kept getting reported to Conservation Officers and was to be killed, but thanks to several requests by Renae at St. Mary's Mission, he was rescued, sent to Animal Humane Society and has since been adopted!!
After
Polly found "Honey" at a garbage bin January, 2007 huddled next to the cold bin, almost frozen to death.   She had mange and very little hair.   Polly had to literally place her next to her body to get heat just to keep her alive.   She lived, and after all Polly's good care, she was placed with Candice's Pitbull Rescue where she was adopted.
Shyla was rescued in February, 2007 from a chain in very cold weather. She had no bedding or shelter.   Her fur was very thin due to mange.   She was fostered through Ann Savage, Pet Haven and enjoys a great life today!   Since that time Ann has helped place many animals has volunteered at the shelter and transported animals to the metro area.
Haley was rescued in February, 2007.   She had a litter with one survivor.   She had the pups under a porch and had been burned with hot grease covering her whole back.   Pleading PAWS Pam and Terresa traveled all the way here to pick up her and many other animals with a 50 below wind chill.   Haley was fostered by a nurse, and miraculously recovered from her 2nd and 3rd degree burns!!
Beauty was surrendered in April, 2007, at the clinic. She was so frightened, she was thought to be a special needs animal and received a new home with a family where she enjoys a full life set up by Lynn Mecum.   Isn't she a beauty? She is loved and nurtured by her new family and Lynn visits her weekly!
These 6 little babies were rescued after reported that their mother had died in and they were nursing on their dead mother in winter, 2007.   She was decomposing and somehow kept them alive for over a week, even though dead!   Tyson Nelson answered the call and   brought the babies to Karen who arranged them to be fostered by Jen Wolfe in Roseau.   They mirculously lived and were all adopted from AHS!!! Can you imagine the love of that mama who even after death sustained these little ones?   Thank you Jen for your special touch with orphan pups!!
The "Scrappy Fund" and Becky Imholte made it possible for him to have life saving surgery after being hit by a car in March, 2007.   His foster home loved him so much they decided to adopt him and give this little three-legged boy a new life.
Sandi was a rescue from Circle Pines.   Her right eye poked out, and her other eyelid was inverted. Sandi would surely be blind!   Pleading Paws took Sandi and got her surgery to restore sight to her remaining eye.   She turned into a very beautiful pup.   Thank you Pleading Paws.   They have taken over 100 pups, kittens, and dogs over past 2 years!!
Marmie was rescued and went to Animal Ark.   She was a very sweet girl who won the hearts of all who met her.   She would crawl on her stomach but gradually got more confidence.   She has a great home!
Bart was a miracle pup.   He was found at the dumpster in the winter of 2007 with his little brother who didn't make it.   Sarah Winkler and family made the rescue.   Bart and his brother were infected with mange and fleas, starving and freezing.   Their matted hair was full of icicles when they arrive.   Bart had a strong will to live and eventually went to a foster home organized by Ann Savage.   His leg was badly deformed from rickets so he wore a brace.   His leg now   is totally healed and he has been adopted and will never suffer again.   You must see Bart's update on the blog as of May 2008!
Pansy was rescued by and accepted by Deanna at Katannchow Rescue in Lavurne, MN.   Much to her surprise she ended up with 7 puppies a few days later!!

Nokomis fostered these little puppies since they were about 2 weeks old.   She found them on the roadside and no mama around.   Pet Haven took them all, and we heard they have all been adopted!!
A bundle of joy, Sharae was taken by Denise Luke who shares this picture
These 3 orphan chihuahua pups were raised by Polly and went to Pleading Paws.   Nice job Polly!!
